It take a village to raise a child

Years ago starting out in a preschool I was exposed to the saying "It takes a village to raise a child". Though I always had an idea of what this meant, more lately than ever it really has hit home. I made the choice long ago that I value having a career and made the choice to go back to work full time 6 weeks after Hannah was born. But even then I hadn't really grasped this concept.

It was until a day or so ago that I had this thought of this quote. As I was leaving the gym actually and headed to pick up Hannah from daycare/preschool. I'm blessed that while Jason has been on the road working I've had help from my cousins Joe and Brittany taking care of Hannah, have had this daycare/preschool to help take care of Hannah. I've got my parents who have been willing to take Hannah a night or two here and there to give me a break. Stefanie who though has been pregnant still has been willing on occasion to keep Hannah when I've been in a bind so I could still work. The child care at the gym, so on occasion I have been able to work out while she plays. The church nursery so I can sit and listen to a sermon. Daily I can look around me and see the village that exists in my life. Without that village I can be pretty certain that Hannah wouldn't be the great girl that she is. She gets so much love and attention from the various people in our village. She learns different things from each person and overall has an opportunity to be exposed to different thoughts and things that allow her to learn some flexibility and acceptance.

So to my village I say simply Thank you. Because without you my family wouldn't be what it is today.

We all have a village surrounding us. But Village doesn't really describe it. It is a family. The word family better defines the love and care that we all have for one another, even those not related by blood. It has been great to watch your friendships grow and develope and now I consider your friends, my friends and my "girls".
