It amazes me how our life can be full of themes without intention. Mine lately has been all about having faith. As our family has faced some tough times this last year our faith has been tested. Jason lost his job last spring, lack of financial resources, new job for Jason that has taking him away from the family, moving, change of job location for me and the list could go on and on.
I have seen many friends and family have their faith tested as well. Our marriage has been tested with Jason working on the roard for the last 7 months. I have had to have faith in my love, in my hubby and his love for me and Hannah.
Last night talking to someone on the phone about life's struggles and how we sometimes question our faith was a moment of hope and clarity for me. I remember as a younger adult that when I struggled I didn't seek out support or friends. I would wallow in my own self inflicted emotional negativity. Now as I have grown and partly I attribute this to my career choice I have found it refreshing to be one that people seek out to talk to. It reminds me of where I came from and why I hold onto hope.
I better understand how normal this life experience is. I also start to relize that saying it takes a village to raise a child also can relate to being an adult. It taks having a support network for those times when we struggle. We need to have people we can call and talk with.
So during my phone conversation last night the opic of how do we have faith came up and I've been thinking about this. Sometimes I think when our faith is tested or faulters we look to thos e around us for a piece of hope or faith. Sometimes when we have reached to the end of our own we simply need someone in our life that still has faith and hope. But we also all seek out the answers in our own way.
As I sit writing this, my sick daughter is on the couch watching Vegggie Tales. Have you ever seen this cartoon? Vegetables that are singing and teaching about various bible stories and morals. Todays' episode was about a child- Junior Asparagus, who after watching a scary movie is fearful of his dark room at night. Bob the tomatoe and Larry the cucumber come to him and teach him about how God is bigger than the boogie man, He is watching out for you and me. Junior Asparagus comes to the conclusion that "Whatever is going to happen, God can handle it".
As I watched this I realized that this has at times been I finally reach to when I'm looking for hope. I come to the conclusion that whatever I'm going through that God is big enough to handle it and that sometimes for me to gain hope and faith I simply need to turn all my cares over to God.
At the end of Veggie Tales the verse for the cartoon was this:
Isaiah 41:10 ‘Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand
So having just a little faith can take you much further than you could have guessed. To my friend I spoke with last night. . . perhaps knowing that there is nothing to fear because God will be with you always may be where you can find your hope.
