In the wee morning hours this morning, while rocking a baby back to sleep I was pondering about this last year as well as this next year. Partially brought on by having spent an evening with some friends that have a 3 1/2 year old and a child that is 2 months older than Hannah. Partially brought on by watching early episodes of Jon and Kate plus 8, when their young ones were 2 1/2 to 3 years old.
I was admiring how large my own 20 month old was getting, how she hangs off the chair when laying in my lap now. How her hands have grown larger and how they hold my hand so much better. How she was actively holding onto the blanket and snuggling herself against me while having no binky (YEAH) in her mouth.
I was thinking over this last year and wondering what the best parts have been. I came up with a few things that I especially have enjoyed this last year. First and Foremost having Jason by my side. Every day I am thankful that I have partner in this parenting thing, cause by all means I need the support. Parenting is not easy at all!
After that I've enjoyed watching Hannah develop. Especially in her ability to show affection and caring. How she's become a child that can detach from us as parents and play and explore her world, but can return to give hugs and kisses to us and other family and friends. Anyone who has recieved a Hannah hug knows the kind I'm talking about, where she squeezes you so hard you want her to stop! But that's how she shows her love right now.
Watching her explore new things. We've tried hard to not change our lifestyle just because we have a kid. We still go camping, and go on adventures and hang out as a family, we just have to pack around a stroller and all the necessities now. But that doesn't bother us at all. This last week alone she came to realize Rain and Snow and can say both of them now. Today expressing some discomfort with her stuffy nose and asking me to wipe it (in her own way).
Overall this year has been full of new things, exploration, family connections and just plain enjoying our life. We were blessed when Jason started a new job in July. We've been surrounded by family and friends. We've had the chance to reconnect as couple in a new way this year too.
So farewell 2009, Welcome 2010, may it continue to be even better than 2009 was.
