Yup as you may have guessed from the post title, Hannah had an ear infection. For the last week she's been struggling with a cold. I took Monday off from work because she was running a fever. Tuesday she went back to school. Tuesday night I'm in the kitchen cooking dinner and she comes up to me and pulls on her ear saying that her ear hurts her.
I called the Dr's office and was able to get her into see a Dr the following morning. Dr was a sweet young lady. Hannah hasn't been to the dr's office in nearly 9 months so she was a bit worried. But friendly with the staff (thank goodness). Dr took a look at her ears and yup 2 mild ear infections were found.
Thankfully we found a Dr that believes in informing the parents, discussing and then deciding on a course of action as a team. She informed that because Hannah's ear infections were mild and this was her first one that it would be okay to forgo the antibiotics for a few more days and do children's motrin instead for pain and hopefully the ears would clear themselves up. A few days of Motrin and my once cranky and pain inflicted child disappeared.
A week later and she seems to back to normal! No pain, no complaints, no fever. Very thankful that our Doctor was willing to accept my leariness of jumping to an antibiotic and willing to give something less harsh a chance first. Though I did get talked into getting Hannah the flu vaccine- since she just started a day care. Thankfully though she was able to be given the flu mist (no shot!)- thankfully bribing with a candy cane helped for Hannah to be willing to let the nurse put the mist in her nose!
Note to self and other parents- carry candy in your purse when going to the Dr- you never know when you might need it to bribe an ill child!
