A few people know that a few months ago Jason and I had started to talk about feeling as if our lives were headed towards a change. But we were not sure what that meant, or even why we would both be feeling it seperately and yet sure it was something that would be for both of us.
*
There were thoughts about job changes, life changes, location changes. And still not sure what the conclusion would be. Well at least not until today for me. It was today that I realized that the pieces made sense and I felt at ease with it all. As if I had come full circle. A sense of peace came to me.
*
I'm not one for divulging all the details but let me see if I can complete the circle for many who may not understand. About 6 weeks ago we got notice that our lease in this complex would be up on 5/15/10 and that we had to notify them by 4/15/10 if we would be staying here or not. Jason and I hemmed and hawed and drug our feet on making a decision. We were not sure what we should do. Jason's job had been shaky, mine has left me wanting something more/different, we just were not sure what to do.
*
Then Jason ran into complications with his work and is no longer employed with that company. I'll spare the nitty gritty but for now he' s hanging with Hannah and exploring options throughout the great Pacific Northwest area. This seemed to be enough for us to decide that we would give our notice at this complex as they were going to be raising the rent on us, and we had not been pleased with the management and the threats and hassle they had given us regarding Jason having his work vehicle in the parking lot overnight.
*
We were not sure where we would go. 2 weeks ago Jason looked at a place Jason decided he didn't like it. Okay we'll continue to look. We searched from Banks to Beaverton last weekend and couldn't find anything that we could agree upon. We ended up at Stef's (who is moving into the first place that Jason didn't like) and decided that complex would be okay after all.
*
Until we found out that there were no vacancies. BUMMER. Back to the drawing board. Then we got an idea. We have no reason to be tied to Washington County area any longer. A few phone calls, some craigslist surfing, and we found a place in Vancouver. Just happens it's the same complex that my Cousin and wife live in, with their daughter that is Hannah's age.
*
Granted we are waiting to see if we are "approved" for the apartment. But we have decided that we would like to move back to the 'Couve. Yes this would mean I would commute until I can figure out what to do about my work. There could be the option of a 4 day work week, some hours at home etc, so we will see what I can work out with my employer. Jason will be able to stay home with Hannah for a bit, as the rent is low enough that my income is all that is needed. He will have more options available to him, school, stay at home dad, full time work or even part time work should he wish. It's all open and flexible right now, no pressure (or at least less pressure).
*
So here is why I feel at peace about this decision. When we last lived in Vancouver (nearly 4 years ago this month was when we moved out of Vancouver), we were happy, active, settled in our lives and felt we had direction. We made some choices along the way that seemed like great ones at the time, but looking back were probably not ones that supported our life goals or mission as a family unit. We bought a house and moved out to the "boonies" with the hope of having the ability to find work out that way, which never happened. Since that time we have run into pitfall after pitfall financially, forcing us to make hard decisions in our life as a family to continue to keep us headed in the right direction.
*
Every time we would start to feel secure it would be temporary until another rug was pulled out from underneath us. Talk about frustrating. In the end (today), there is a feeling that we need to have a fresh start. A secure place we can live and afford on one income, in the event that Jason's has a hard time finding work again- after all the economy has not been friendly and the unemployment has been high. So it feels to me we have made a full circle, moving back to where we started it all. I was living in Vancouver when I met Jason and that's where we started our life together in a small 1 bed/studio apartment (oh those were the days!).
**
I started to think it over tonight I have lived in 13 places since I left for college 13 years ago (this includes 3 dorms, 1 townhouse, 2 Seattle Apts, Seattle Studio, Mom and Dad's, Vancouver Studio, Vancouver Apt, House, 2 Washington County apartments). I will admit I am so tired of moving- I am wishfully hoping and thinking that perhaps this will be a place where we can live for some time until we are ready to make a more permanent situation in our lives in terms of our housing. But only time will tell what is in store for our futures.
So here's the update that a few have been waiting for. Thanks for listening.
