Laundry anyone?

Laura had gone home after visiting us and had posted about making laundry soap for her family. After listening to her process and hearing about how she liked it, I decided that I would give it a shot. What could it hurt right? The cost for all the products needed approx $7.50. A bar of Fels-naptha, box of borax and box of washing soda. The box of borax and washing soda will not need to be replaced next time I make this.

So I followed the instructions from a friend of a friend's website. If your interested I can relay the instructions to you. But heres a few photos.

First water and fels-naptha (that had been grated, over med heat).

This is a picture of the what sat overnight to gel up. In the end I had about double that in laundry soap! Approximately 9 gallons of detergent! I won't be wanting for laundry soap in the upcoming weeks that for sure! There aren't any harsh smells, laundry smells clean without the fragrances. No dyes or things for those of us with sensitive skin. I have been living with just using less detergent but hoping that this will help with some of the itchiness that I experience. And though Hannah doesn't have allergies or itchies yet that I've noticed, I figure it is just good for her in the long run to use something like this. So far we like it. I plan on sharing with a few people so they can try it out.

Either way it's an adventure in learning to be more green household.
